Friday, May 9: Water Discoloration Notice

A water line was struck, resulting in a turbid plume in Lake Washington, and residents from the south end at 5600 Pleasure Point Lane to the north end at Newcastle Beach Park (shown on map below) are experiencing discolored water with sediment. Crews are cleaning the impacted storm structures and expect water quality to improve by the morning of Saturday, May 10. People and pets are advised not to enter the water while it is cloudy.     The Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) Advisory Board makes recommendations to the City Council on the use of revenue collected from TPA fees in the Bellevue and Redmond zones. The board is comprised of representatives from lodging businesses that are subject to the fee, with four members from the Bellevue zone and four from the Redmond zone. 

    The TPA Advisory Board holds public meetings, contracts studies, analyses and reports requested by the council. Board requirements include the following: 

    • Review promotional activities and expenditures designed to increase tourism and convention business in both TPA zones
    • Review relevant financial revenue and expenditure statements
    • Provide periodic reports to the Bellevue City Council on TPA revenues and expenditures
    • Develop a recommended annual strategic plan for lodging revenues each year by July 30
    • Develop a recommended annual budget each year by July 30
    • Provide an annual report to the Redmond City Council
    • Review and recommending proposals from destination management organizations, or similar organizations, to provide for management and operation of the TPA
    • Recommend qualified candidates to serve as representatives to the board

    Meetings

    Meeting dates, times and topics are available in the meeting archive. Unless otherwise noted, the TPA Advisory Board meets quarterly, on the fourth Thursday of January, April, July and October, at 10 a.m. in Bellevue City Hall, Room 1E-113. All meetings are conducted both in-person and virtually and are open to the public.

    Members

    TPA Advisory Board Members are appointed by the City Manager. Members can serve no more than two consecutive four-year terms. Terms expire on May 31 of the final year of the term. Commissioners appointed to fill partial terms of less than two years are eligible to serve for an additional two full terms.
