A map showing the project location of the SE 22nd St Speed Cushions project. The project area is 150th Ave SE to 156th Ave SE.

The City of Bellevue Transportation Department is considering installing speed cushions on SE 22nd Street between 150th and 156th Avenues SE. The speed cushions would be intended to address the community’s concerns about speeding vehicles. Speed cushions are two or more raised and rounded areas of pavement placed across a road. They have gaps to allow emergency vehicles and people bicycling to pass through more quickly without needing to drive over the cushions. In other areas of Bellevue, speed cushions have decreased the average driving speed by up to 5 mph.

    Timeline

The design of the speed cushions is expected to begin in spring 2025. It you have any questions or comments, please contact the project manager, Lindsey Pavletich (425-452-4636, lpavletich@bellevuewa.gov) by May 31, 2025 so they can be considered at the start of the design process.

If this project proceeds, installation would likely happen when the road is repaved through the city’s Pavement Preservation Program, which is scheduled to happen in 2026 or 2027. Once locations of cushions have been finalized, the project team will notify homeowners who are next to a proposed speed cushion.
