We’re making it safer and easier for people to cross the street at SE 60th Street and 120th Avenue NE. This project will add a flashing light system called an RRFB (Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon), a new streetlight, sidewalk ramps that are easier for everyone to use, and a new sidewalk that connects to the one already there on the east side. These changes will help people cross the street more safely, especially when cars are nearby.
Project Description:
This project will improve the crosswalk at SE 60th Street and 120th Avenue NE by implementing:
- New sidewalk ramps that follow ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) rules
- New crosswalk paint and markings
- A flashing light system (RRFB) and a new streetlight
- A new sidewalk on the north side of the intersection that connects to the existing sidewalk to the east
The project will also upgrade the existing driveway on the northside of the intersection to meet city design standards, and proposes reducing the driveway’s width from 50 feet to approximately 36 feet or narrower to improve safety for people walking, biking and rolling.

Background:
This project was advanced by neighbors through the Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP). In 2022, people living in the Newport area shared 116 ideas for neighborhood improvements of which this crosswalk project was voted as a priority for implementation.
The NEP is a program from the Bellevue City Council that gives neighborhoods money for small projects that make their areas better.

Funding
Design work is funded with $100,000 from the city’s Capital Improvement Program (PW-R-199), while construction is backed by $305,000 from the Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP).
