To address concerns about safe walking and rolling, the city is adding flashing crosswalk beacons on each side of Lakemont Boulevard at SE 58th Street near the Lewis Creek Visitor Center. These changes will help people cross the street more safely, especially when cars are nearby.
Timeline:
- Early 2027: Flashing beacons will be installed on each side of Lakemont Boulevard.
- September 2026: Construction begins and will last about a week. Work hours are from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. and one lane will be closed with flaggers alternating traffic. The project will pause after the initial construction phase for material procurement.
- March 2026: Advertise for construction bids.
- February 2026: Final design (100%) complete.
Funding: Funding for this project comes from grants from the Transportation Improvement Board and the Neighborhood Levy fund. The estimated cost is $200,000.
