The City of Bellevue’s Crossroads North and South Reservoirs need a full exterior recoating to remove lead paint, address corrosion issues, and ensure safe drinking water and reliable operations for the City. The project involves the removal of the existing lead-based coatings from the reservoir's exterior surfaces and the application of a new protective coating system.
Why is this project needed?
- Exterior recoating – The typical life expectancy of water tank coatings is between 20 and 30 years. Both of the tanks were last recoated in 2000. They are aging and showing signs of cracking, particularly on the roof surfaces.
- Removal of lead – There is lead paint present in the exterior coatings of both reservoirs that needs to be removed to protect community and environmental health.
- Other improvements - Other minor miscellaneous improvements include painting overflow piping adjacent to the tanks and repairing damage to the reservoirs’ concrete foundation.
Project Location
The project is located near 16049 NE 8th St.
Anticipated project impacts
- The impacts to the community during the project construction are expected to be minor. Some of the work may involve loud construction noise, but the contractor will follow all noise ordinances to ensure the noise does not exceed approved levels. All construction will take place during daytime hours.
- The recoating project will not impact water usage or require any water shut-offs. One tank will be under construction at a time, so the other will be able to remain in service.
