Since its inception the City of Bellevue Fire Department has considered medical aid to be an import aspect of their mission. To better serve the community, Bellevue Fire Department launched the second paramedic program in King County in 1972; just two years after the Seattle Fire Department pioneered the concept.
Every Bellevue firefighter has either an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic level of medical training, and is committed to providing exceptional pre-hospital emergency medicine through the delivery of compassionate, courteous and professional treatment of those placed in our care.

In addition to the Basic Life Support (BLS) services provided in the City of Bellevue and our partner communities, Advanced Life Support (ALS) is provided in partnership with King County Medic One, covering the communities along the I-90 corridor from Lake Washington to Snoqualmie Pass.
In 2018 the Bellevue Fire Department responded to more than 20,000 calls for service; 78% were for medical assistance.
