Fire inspectors check multifamily and commercial buildings every other year, ensuring there are working sprinklers, alarms and other provisions that prevent fires. Multifamily buildings lacking fire alarm or fire sprinkler systems are inspected annually. To support the fire inspection program, annual fire inspection fees will be charged starting in 2020.
The fees will start at $180 for buildings larger than 1,000 square feet and multifamily complexes, with the precise fee depending on the square footage and complexity of the building.
In December 2018 the City Council approved an ordinance that established the fire inspection fees to ensure recovery of the costs associated with the inspection program. To ensure a smooth transition to the fee implementation, we will work with building owners and managers throughout 2019 to answer any questions you may have and to collect building and tenant information.

Building Information Sheets
In an effort to ensure we are using the most current data, we are asking building owners to submit building and commercial tenant information to the Fire Prevention Division using one of the forms below. We have provided an excel spreadsheet format, a .pdf you can print, hand-fill and return via email or mail, or a fillable screen. For those buildings with numerous commercial tenants (not to include apartment/condo residents), the excel spreadsheet may be the best option.
