Bellevue is at the forefront of using technology to improve traffic management.
Incorporating intelligent transportation systems (ITS) into the Traffic Management Center at City Hall and elsewhere improves real-time traffic information, emergency services and transit.
In 2018, Bellevue updated the 2004 ITS Master Plan, renaming it the Smart Mobility Plan. The new plan includes substantial changes such as autonomous, connected, electric and shared technologies.
In February 2023, Bellevue introduced the Automated Vehicle Strategic Vision, a collaboration with the City of Seattle to build a framework that applies a unified approach to prepare for the arrival of automated vehicle (AV) technology throughout the region. A shared vision for a desired future and guidance on the preparation, planning and implementation of AV technologies, are all covered in this document.
