The Transportation Department operates and maintains all the traffic signals within the city limits through use of a fiber optic network that connects each traffic signal to the Traffic Management Center at City Hall.
The central system, fiber optic communication network and cameras used to monitor the traffic signal operations are part of the city’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).
ITS is used to improve transportation safety and mobility through the integration of technology, applications and platforms at the Traffic Management Center, on city roadsides and in vehicles.
Bellevue works with Puget Sound Energy to operate and maintain all of the city's street lighting.
