The Earthquake Home Retrofit Program encourages owners of older wood-framed houses to retrofit their homes to increase their structural safety.
In order to make the retrofit process as easy and cost effective as possible, we offer a streamlined application and plan review process. The use of a standard plan set eliminates the need for you to hire an engineer or architect to draw up plans.
To take advantage of this program:
- Review the Earthquake Home Retrofit Handbook for information on how to complete a home assessment.
- Use the Home Assessment Checklist to determine if your home qualifies for the program.
- Use the prescribed plan set to create your retrofit building plans.
- Apply for a residential remodel permit.
Your plan reviewer will determine if your home qualifies for the program and how long plan review will take.
Homes that do not qualify may still be retrofitted, but you will need to hire an engineer or architect to design retrofit plans for your specific home.
