Portable Radar Dolly

Thank you for your desire to help motorists become more aware of their speeds by borrowing the radar dolly from the City of Bellevue. This radar unit has been effective in decreasing vehicle speeds in many areas of Bellevue. We hope that it will do the same for you in your neighborhood. You are allowed to borrow the unit for two weeks. We will contact you by phone or email to make arrangements for both drop off and pickup. If you have any questions, please call 425-452-6457.

Please complete the form below to be added to the radar dolly waiting list.

Street address

I agree to the following:

  1. The radar dolly is a delicate instrument, and must be handled carefully. I am at least 21 years old and will be responsible for protecting the dolly and returning it in good working order.
  2. As operator, I am not a city employee or law enforcement officer and will not communicate or seek to communicate by my actions or speech that I am.
  3. I will not attempt to chase, stop or apprehend drivers, nor will I encourage any other person to do so. I will make no gestures or verbal comments, nor will I throw objects at vehicles/drivers.

Instructions:

  • The dolly should always be placed off of the street so that it does not become an obstacle to a vehicle passing by or parking. Also make sure it does not block the sight line for vehicles backing out of driveways.
  • If the radar dolly will not be placed in front of your house, please obtain written permission from the resident who lives at the location where you are requesting the radar dolly to be placed.
  • The speed display portion of the sign should be situated in such a way as to be seen by drivers from at least 100 feet away.
  • Be sure to test the unit by waiting to see a vehicle pass by the sign and read the speed being displayed. If the speed doesn't seem reasonable to you, then you may want to drive by the sign yourself to verify it is in good working order.
  • The unit should be stored near your home/garage during the night time hours.
  • We recommend charging the unit at least every 48 hours or as needed.
  • If a lock was issued with the unit, please keep the unit locked to a secure object in your yard. The combination to unlock the dolly will be provided when you borrow the radar dolly.
  • Report vandalism or theft of the unit to the police immediately by calling 911.
  • Report any problems with the unit to BellevueNTSS (bellevuentss@bellevuewa.gov, 425-452-6457).
