City and MG2 to host exhibition at City Hall in honor of AANHPI Heritage Month
In celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the City of Bellevue and MG2 are presenting an art exhibition showcasing emerging AANHPI artists from this region.
The exhibition will feature a wide range of art that represents traditional to contemporary expressions and illuminates the culture, legacies and experiences of AANHPI peoples.
The exhibition, curated by Mami Shimiomura, will be on display May 1-29 on the City Hall concourse, accessible on weekdays, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
The community is invited to attend an opening reception on Friday, May 2, 6-8 p.m., in the City Hall concourse. Registration is required.
“In May, Bellevue joins communities across the country to celebrate the diverse array of cultures, languages and traditions that make up AANHPI communities,” said Dr. Linda Whitehead, chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer. “Art can open the door to better understanding of the history, talents and unique lived experiences of one of the largest communities in Bellevue.”
Recognition of AANHPI Heritage Month will also include a proclamation read at the May 13 City Council meeting.
