The Bellevue Fire Department serves a broad and diverse region, providing fire suppression, emergency medical services and specialized rescue response to the communities of Bellevue, Newcastle, Medina, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Yarrow Point and the Village of Beaux Arts. The department's primary service area includes nearly 180,000 people, while our advanced life support (paramedic) responsibilities through the King County Medic One system extend along the I-90 corridor from Mercer Island to Snoqualmie Pass, serving a population of more than 356,000.
The communities we serve are also among the most diverse in the region. Approximately 59% of Bellevue residents identify as people of color, nearly 45% were born outside the United States and almost half speak a language other than English at home. That diversity, combined with Bellevue's growing urban core, high-rise development, major transportation corridors, lakes, residential neighborhoods and mountain wilderness creates a wide range of service needs and response environments.
