In 2017, the City Council adopted the Affordable Housing Strategy, which includes Action B-2, calling for an update to the city’s Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) standards. Council adopted Ordinance 6567, which removes the ADU three-year wait period imposed on new construction in response to Action B-2.
What happened?
On February 16, 2021, the City Council adopted Ordinance 6567 amending the Bellevue Land Use Code 20.20.120 Accessory Dwelling Units to remove the three-year wait period to establish an accessory dwelling unit in new single-family home construction.
Public Hearing
On January 13, 2021, the Planning Commission held a virtual public hearing to amend the Bellevue Land Use Code 20.20.120 Accessory Dwelling Units to allow for accessory dwellings units to be built in a new single-family home at the time of initial building permit issuance.
