    Published March 11 2015

To add sewer capacity for downtown's growing population and replace aging infrastructure, the City of Bellevue will replace a sewer pump station and pipes in the Bellefield neighborhood.

Construction, at 112th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 15th Street, will begin on March 16. About a month after construction begins, April through September, the two northbound lanes on 112th Avenue will be closed, between Southeast 15th Street and Bellevue Way. During this time, traffic will be diverted to the two southbound lanes (one lane in each direction will remain open).

Southeast 15th Street (the Bellefield Office Park entrance) will also be closed for three weeks to allow for the construction of pipe crossings (time period will be determined after construction starts).

Completion of the project is scheduled for the spring of 2016.

Electronic message signs will inform motorists of dates for lane closures. Information will also be posted at Bellefield Pump Station Capacity Improvements, where you can sign up for alerts about project updates.

Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, with potential weekend and evening work for limited periods, as necessary, for working in intersections. Residents should expect heavy equipment, delivery of materials, construction noise and traffic delays.

Two other large sewer projects likely to impact traffic in the area -- the East Central Business District Sewer Trunkline Improvements and the Wilburton Sewer Capacity Improvements -- are scheduled to begin construction later this year, most likely in the summer.

Although the city utility projects are within the future Sound Transit East Link light rail work area, they are not being constructed because of light rail impacts and are independent of Sound Transit work, which is anticipated to begin in 2016.

Drivers should plan ahead and use caution when traveling through construction zones. Please obey flaggers and construction signing.

For questions about this work, contact Jay Hummel, Utilities senior engineer (425-452-4160 or Jhummel@bellevuewa.gov).
