The City of Bellevue has long been committed to transparency and accountability, presenting annual performance data and resident survey results on its website. Now the city is raising the bar, displaying live data in easy-to-read bar charts.
"Data has driven our performance for many years," said City Manager Brad Miyake. "I'm excited about a tool that makes it even easier for our residents to see how we are doing."
Bellevue's performance dashboards present 52 indicators across the seven community outcomes under which Bellevue's programs are budgeted. The city has been expanding its data collection in an effort to track service improvements in a quantifiable way.
About half the indicators are results from Bellevue's annual resident survey. The other half are performance data, in some cases tracked quarterly rather than annually. Many performance data measures are compared against targets, based on past trends and industry standards. In nearly all cases, the city is meeting or exceeding its targets.
Performance data on the new web pages include:
- Cardiac arrest survival;
- Police response time;
- New business registrations.
- Pothole repair time; and
- Recreation program registrations.
The dashboards will make it easier for staff and residents to assess the city's performance and for the organization to make adjustments if necessary.
Performance measures included in the dashboards may change, depending on demand for certain data. While most data are annual at this point, more frequent numbers, quarterly or monthly, will likely be introduced over time.
