The Newcastle Beach Park swimming area closed Tuesday, Aug. 29, due to high bacteria concentrations in the water. Swimming and wading in the water is inadvisable.
Swimming is open at Chism and Enatai beach parks, as well as Meydenbauer Bay Park, with lifeguards on duty noon-7 p.m. through Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 4). The Enatai swimming area was closed earlier due to high bacteria, but reopened on Aug. 24.
The closure of the Newcastle swimming area comes at the direction of Public Health – Seattle & King County, which routinely tests water quality at freshwater swimming beaches throughout the area. The swimming area will be reopened when testing indicates that bacteria levels are low again.
Although the beach is closed to swimming, Newcastle park is still open. Signs at the park alert visitors to the closure of the swimming area. More details at Beach Parks with Lifeguards.
