Attention nature enthusiasts: The Bellevue Naturalist program is accepting applications for the class of 2027!
Participants learn about local ecology, geology, wildlife, plant life and cultural history from experts, while supporting restoration and conservation efforts throughout the city. Naturalists also help educate the community and inspire others to care for our natural spaces.
Bellevue naturalists have the kind of passion for stewardship that was on full display during our recent Arbor Day event at Lewis Creek Park, where 66 volunteers embraced the rain and mud to plant native trees, shrubs and ground covers. Bellevue residents will have priority for selection, but residents of other cities will be considered if space allows.
In-person trainings will be Jan. 26 to Apr. 29, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m., including indoor evening sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-8 p.m., and multiple Saturday field trips. After training, volunteers commit to 100 hours of service to the Parks & Community Services Department’s Natural Resources division.
Interested people can apply online at Bellevue Naturalist by Monday, Nov. 30.
