Bill Pace now has a produce shop at the Newport Hills Shopping Center. He's set up a café there too, with his wife Marianne baking the pastries on offer.
More than anything, the veteran produce seller wants customers and potential customers, especially those in the neighborhood, to know Bill Pace Fruit and Produce is open for business near the corner of 119th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 56th Street. "The people haven't found me," Pace laments. "I hope to hell I can hang on until they do."
Pace's move and efforts to revitalize the Newport Hills commercial district are the cover story in this month's issue of It's Your City, which started landing on doorsteps last week. The newsletter also features:
- A Council Corner column in which Dr. Don Davidson takes the opportunity to look back on a long tenure on the City Council. "It's been a great ride," he says;
- Details about the 60-percent design milestone for East Link, which offers residents an opportunity to weigh in on public art and other aspects of the six stations to be built in Bellevue;
- Summaries about all of the candidates on the November ballot for Bellevue City Council;
- The rollout of paperless permitting for all permit types, which promises to make those rolls of plans cramming Development Services cubicles a thing of the past; and
- Helpful information for residents seeking to sign up for affordable health insurance made possible by the Affordable Care Act. A summary of state and county enrollment assistance programs is translated into Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Farsi, Russian, Korean and Japanese.
The next issue of It's Your City will come out in February. If you have questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact the editor, Claude Iosso (425-452-4448). All issues from the past several years can be accessed at It's Your City.
