Plus, Great Neighborhoods update and Arts Commission appointment
The City Council Monday gave preliminary approval to a list of transportation projects planned for the next 20 years, including ones in the Downtown Transportation Plan Update, the Transit Master Plan and the Mobility Implementation Plan, as well as projects that address emerging needs.
The list is part of the city’s draft 2026-2045 Transportation Facilities Plan, an intermediate-range planning document that includes projects for which funding has been allocated. The plan will replace the current 2022-2033 TFP.
The council directed the Transportation Commission and staff to proceed with the TFP process, including extending the timeframe of the plan from 12 to 20 years. Staff will now perform a State Environmental Policy Act review of the plan and update impact fees that help support the TFP projects.
The process to update the TFP started last September. It is anticipated that the final TFP will be reviewed by the council by the end of 2025.
“Great Neighborhoods” launches in Eastgate and Factoria
The council also launched neighborhood area planning efforts in Eastgate and Factoria, as part of the city’s planning program known as “Great Neighborhoods.”
Bellevue’s Comprehensive Plan guides the city’s growth and development over 20-year periods and is organized into two volumes. While Volume 1 consists of citywide policies the community’s vision for the future, Volume 2 is comprised of goals and policies for the city’s neighborhood areas.
Neighborhood area plans are important tools to address evolving needs and conditions and neighborhood priorities at a local level. Through extensive community engagement, these plans inform future growth and change by guiding the types of improvements people want to see in their neighborhoods.
The Eastgate and Factoria Great Neighborhoods planning process will host a kickoff on Thursday, Sept. 4, 4:30-7:30 p.m., at the South Bellevue Community Center. During this event, the planning team will provide an overview of the plan, answer questions, and engage with residents on their ideas. Community members are invited to learn more at EngagingBellevue.com/great-neighborhoods-eastgate and Engagingbellevue.com/great-neighborhoods-factoria. Register for the Sept. 4 event and additional plan updates.
