Road construction began this week on pedestrian-oriented improvements for Northeast Eighth Street between 160th and 164th avenues. Crews are adding new curb ramps, a median island, a mid-block crosswalk, pedestrian crossing signs and street lighting. Additionally, a flashing beacon will be added to warn oncoming traffic that pedestrians are crossing the street. With Crossroads International Park, Crossroads Park & Community Center, the Water Spray Play Area and many other services and shopping in the area, improving pedestrian safety is a high priority.
Construction, to continue through early January, will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Traffic congestion and delay is expected between 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Drivers should plan to take alternate routes during these times to avoid delays.
