Wilburton area residents and residents near Eastgate Elementary School should plan ahead for roadway impacts in May on 124th Avenue Northeast and on Southeast Newport Way, respectively.
Work continues on the Wilburton Streetscapes project along 124th Avenue Northeast. To accommodate concrete and asphalt work just south of the Northeast Eighth Street intersection, 124th Avenue Northeast will be closed from Northeast Eighth Street to Main Street from Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 22. While work hours will stay at 7 a.m.-6 p.m., the roadway will be closed 24/7 to through traffic. Local access to businesses and residences will be maintained, and school busses will be permitted. A detour via Northeast First Street, 120th Avenue Northeast, and Northeast Eighth Street will be marked. Flaggers will help direct local traffic through the closure area.
The one-way westbound detour on Southeast Newport Way, between 150th and 152nd avenues Southeast will continue through the month of May. The detour will be in effect between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Originally intended to end in late April, the longer detour duration will allow for the project to be completed earlier than anticipated and will help ensure safety for crews and people traveling through the area. The detour has improved the flow of traffic through the project area and better accommodates school-related traffic during peak times.
Eastbound drivers will still be permitted to use the roadway; westbound drivers will be detoured via either 152nd Avenue Southeast and 148th Place Southeast, or Southeast 38th Street and 153rd Avenue Southeast. School buses, Metro buses and waste collection vehicles will be able to travel both directions through the work zone.
Drivers in these areas should plan ahead and use alternate routes if possible. For up-to-date weekly construction information, please refer to Traffic Advisories or follow Bellevues Transportation Department, @BvueTrans, on Twitter.
