Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, the intersection of 112th Avenue Southeast and Southeast Eighth Street will see significant traffic modifications to accommodate sewer improvement work.
The travelling public can expect these changes at the intersection:
- The two southbound left turn lanes on 112th Avenue Southeast that direct traffic eastbound onto Southeast Eighth Street toward Interstate 405 will be reduced to one lane for two months;
- The middle left turn lane on 112th Avenue Southeast will become a straight through lane southbound;
- The two southbound lanes on 112th Avenue Southeast will be closed between Southeast Eighth Street and Southeast 15th Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane each direction in the two northbound lanes;
- Temporary traffic signal and pavement marking modifications will be made to direct both motorists and pedestrians through the intersection; and
- Lane modifications will remain in place during both work and non-work hours.
The sewer improvements are needed to increase capacity to serve a growing downtown, and to replace aging infrastructure. Expect the following during construction:
- Work hours will be between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, with some weekend and evening work expected for limited periods as necessary; and
- Heavy equipment, delivery of materials, construction noise and traffic delays.
