
Dr. Linda Whitehead, Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer

Linda leads the city's efforts to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion for the people the city serves, as well as city staff. She joined Bellevue in August 2021, after a 30-year career in public schools.
In education, Linda progressed from teacher to superintendent, creating policies and procedures that supported equity and inclusion. She has worked with national organizations and community groups, including the Bellevue Diversity Advisory Network and Bellevue Network on Aging, to develop policy and foster effective leadership and organizational change for equitable outcomes.
Sara Boyle, DEI Community Outreach and Engagement Administrator
Sara works closely with departments across the city to implement plans and activities for moving the city forward on diversity, equity and inclusion. She also leads the city’s Cross-Cultural Center without Walls work and collaborates with her team to train, educate and consult with staff and community members. She came to the city in April 2022 after nearly a decade of working to advance equity in King and Snohomish counties, including two years as director of Connect Casino Road, a partnership of nonprofits and government organizations serving immigrant families in South Everett.
Dr. Marcus Johnson, DEI Community Outreach and Engagement Administrator
Marcus came to Bellevue in 2022 from the University of Washington where he was a diversity and inclusion consultant and instructor. Marcus specializes in critical cultural communication. He has a PhD with a focus on race, gender and identity. Marcus continues to expand his work as a facilitator and advocates for cultivating inclusive and diverse spaces.
Erik Mercado, Equity Coordinator
Erik joined the team in September 2023, supporting Bellevue's DEI programs by providing program coordination and administrative assistance for community events, citywide initiatives, special projects and community outreach. Erik, raised in Bellevue, channels his roots and experiences from an immigrant mixed-status family into his passionate commitment to community service and inclusivity. His journey in public service began in cultural outreach, promoting community understanding and engagement.
