To accommodate future growth in the downtown area, existing utilities along Bellevue Way require updating. This work is being coordinated with the future Lincoln Square Expansion. The office, hotel, retail and residential project is slated for completion by 2017.
On Monday, April 28, crews will begin closing lanes on Bellevue Way, between Northeast Fourth Street and Northeast Sixth Street, and along Northeast Fourth Street between 106th Avenue Northeast and Bellevue Way, to prepare for the utility work. Work hours for this phase will be from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and will continue through Friday, May 9. The work includes potholing to verify the location and depth of existing utilities, and saw-cutting, which facilitates digging trenches.
A full closure on Bellevue Way will begin Monday, May 12, and continue through Friday, May 23. During these 12 days, Bellevue Way will be completely closed 24 hours a day, between Northeast 4th and Northeast 6th streets. Signs will be posted prior to the closure. All surrounding businesses will remain open and accessible via signed detour routes and flaggers will be on site to help direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Most of the utility work and associated road work will take place between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. to prevent overnight noise to adjacent residences and businesses, although some night work will be needed due to water shutdowns and other factors. More information about the closure, including specific dates of any night work, will be made available in the coming weeks.
Drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists should always exercise caution when negotiating a construction zone. To stay informed about traffic impacts and closures, see traffic advisories at https://transportation.bellevuewa.gov/traffic-conditions/traffic-advisories, or follow @BvueTrans on Twitter.
