Drivers who take the eastbound Northeast Eighth Street exit from northbound Interstate 405 should plan to take alternate routes Friday, November 7, until Monday morning, November 10, while crews work around the clock to complete emergency repairs on an approximately 30-year-old stormwater pipe beneath the roadway.
Contractor crews working for the state Department of Transportation will replace a corroded section of the three-foot-diameter pipe, which has leaked and washed soil away under the shoulder of the ramp. The full-weekend closure of the ramp will also allow contractor crews to stabilize a nearby underground retaining wall before filling and repaving the ramp.
The closure will start 8 p.m., Friday and last around the clock until 5 a.m., Monday. Some of this work is weather-dependent. If additional soil under the pipe and ramp continue to wash away, WSDOT may close the ramp before Friday.
Alternate routes
Drivers heading to east Bellevue from northbound I-405 should plan to use alternate routes. Two options for getting around the closure:
- Take the Northeast Fourth Street exit from northbound I-405 and travel north on 116th Avenue Northeast to Northeast Eighth Street.
- Take the Southeast Eighth Street exit and turn left onto the Lake Hills Connector to Northeast Eighth Street.
The westbound Northeast Eighth Street exit from northbound I-405 will remain open.
