Two Bellevue residents – Susan Allen and Allan Schneider – have each volunteered a remarkable 5,000 hours of their time in service to the police department. The department recognized their contributions at an Oct. 24 luncheon.
Allen, who grew up in Bellevue and lives in the Lochmoor neighborhood, has volunteered for the police since the early '90s. She’s staffed the Factoria and Transit Center substations and helped with crime prevention programs. Since 2011 she’s been at the Crossroads community station and was a driving force behind the annual National Night Out event at Crossroads.
Schneider, a retired Boeing engineer and army veteran, has been a fixture in the Investigations Unit since he began volunteering for the BPD in 2000. He assists detectives by identifying stolen items that end up at local pawn shops and publishing a list twice a year for local law enforcement and pawn shops of people banned from pawning items around here.
In addition, Schneider reviews sex offender case files for risk level assessments and looks at King County sex offender lists to ensure that Bellevue has complete information about sex offenders living in the city.
Schneider, a longtime Sherwood Forest resident, values the friendships he’s established with several officers over his 18 years of service and, like Allen, continues to enjoy volunteering with the police department.
