Participants can win restaurant gift cards
With transportation projects, such as East Link light rail line and I-405 express tolling in Bellevue's near future, businesses and citizens may be concerned about traffic impacts. In light of this, the city is exploring how to help people get around, be it by transit, carpooling, vanpooling, walking, biking, car-sharing or teleworking.
Through a survey, the city is asking Bellevue residents, workers, employers and property managers how to most effectively increase the viability and ease of using modes other than driving alone. The city's Transportation Demand Management group works to make it easier to use transit, find carpool/vanpool partners and identify walking and bicycling routes. The group also helps employers and property managers assist their employees and tenants in the same way.
The survey will gather input on the services that matter most to Bellevue audiences, such as:
- Continuing to provide travel option information on the city's Choose Your Way website;
- Providing free commute planning assistance;
- Working with employers and property managers to help them attract/retain employees and tenants by facilitating the use of transit and other modes besides solo driving;
- Providing a ride home in case of emergency; and
- Maintaining or enhancing the "On The Move Bellevue" trip logging and incentive program that makes it easier for those driving alone to try a new transportation mode.
"Increasing the use of modes other than driving alone helps not only the people using those modes," said Kate Johnson, associate planner in the Transportation Department. "It helps keep traffic flowing for all users of the transportation system as the city deals with construction and growth."
The results will help inform a 2015-2020 plan for reducing transportation demand in the city. Those who complete the survey by December 22 can enter a drawing to win one of four $75 gift cards for downtown restaurants, including The Purple Café and Lot No. 3.
