The forecast calls for heavy rain Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall Saturday night.

    Thursday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m.

Two of the week's storms down, one to go. Heavy rain and strong winds hit Bellevue as forecast Wednesday, knocking down a tree on 164th Avenue Southeast near Southeast 43rd Street. The city was otherwise largely unscathed.

Heavy rain and more wind are forecast for Saturday. There could be some lowland flooding. With the ground already saturated, more trees could come down. Utilities crews are out clearing storm drains, but they can't get all of them, so please clear ones in your neighborhood if they are clogged.

    Wednesday, Oct. 18, 8:30 a.m.

Rain and stiff winds are expected to arrive Wednesday in Bellevue and the surrounding area. According to the National Weather Service, 1 to 3 inches of rain may fall on the city, mostly between 2 and 5 p.m., with gusts up to 45 mph.

Another storm is forecast to arrive here on Saturday, with details about the volume of rainfall and strength of winds still uncertain.

Potential impacts from this week’s storms include falling branches and trees that could result in power outages. Localized flooding is a possibility as well.

What can you do to prepare?

    • Clear local storm drains of leaves to prevent flooding in your neighborhood. Remember to clear your drain only if it is safe. Stay out of the street and work from a sidewalk if possible. Put all leaves and compostable debris in your organics cart. If a storm drain appears blocked below the street surface, call 425-452-7840.
    • Put away summer lawn furniture so it won’t blow away.
    • Have flashlights and fresh batteries in case of power outages.

Other safety tips for stormy weather:

    • If you have a life-threatening situation, call 911.
    • To reporting flooding at your home or business, hazardous road conditions, or down or damaged stop or yield signs, call the City of Bellevue 24-hour emergency number at 425-452-7840.
    • To report gas leaks, power outages, or down power lines, call Puget Sound Energy at 1-888-225-5773.
    • Remember that during a storm it's normal for streams to rise and some parking lots and parks to fill with water. Do not walk or drive through flooded areas, which can be dangerous.
