To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the city invites community members to “Somos Bellevue,” an evening cultural event featuring live theater and dance on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
For Bellevue’s celebration, Nahui Ollin Tezcatlipoca will perform Danza Azteca, traditional dancing that originated in the Aztec empire that ranged across central Mexico. Living Voices, a local group that merges live theater with archival film footage, will present “La Causa,” about migrant workers led by Dolores Huerta and César Chávez fighting for safe working conditions.
People of color represent 60% of Bellevue’s population of 154,000, with Latinos comprising nearly 9%. The City Council read a proclamation in September to formally recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month in Bellevue.
Somos Bellevue will take place in City Hall (450 110th Ave. NE), on the first-floor concourse, 6:30-9 p.m. (flyer, volantes).
