The haze from regional wildfires continues to hover over Bellevue, and an air quality alert remains in effect for Western Washington through noon Thursday. Children, the elderly and individuals with respiratory illnesses should avoid spending time outdoors.
Beginning on Monday evening, regional wildfires blanketed Puget Sound with smoke haze and falling ash throughout Belleve and the greater Eastside. NORCOM, the dispatch center for most Eastside emergency agencies, received over 50 emergency calls early Tuesday morning.
No local fire is producing the smoke, haze and ash. However, during this time period, if you see flames with smoke please call 911. Involved residents play a crucial part of our community’s public safety. Please note that the smell of smoke may be more prevalent if you reside on a hill.
The Fire Department encourages residents to check on and monitor any elderly residents or those with breathing issues you may know. Remind them to stay indoors or in a place with air conditioning.
Outside temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s today in Bellevue. It’s also important to drink plenty of water and avoid long periods in the sun.
