With the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death this month, the Bellevue Youth Theater is presenting "Romeo and Juliet" this weekend and next. A seasoned actor who performed at the popular Oregon Shakespeare Festival is coaching the cast.
Kevin McLean, who has acted in several BYT productions since his days on Oregon stages in the 70's, is giving the young actors tips on delivering the Bard's famous lines with conviction.
"Romeo and Juliet" opens at the BYT's new space at 16051 NE 10th St. on Friday. The Bellevue Youth Theater has details about BYT's spring shows and how to get tickets.
McLean, whose niece Dayle Walters is musical director for BYT, is co-director for "Romeo and Juliet" as well as acting coach.
Under the supervision of James McClain (not to be confused with McLean), the BYT has been a valued youth development and arts program since 1990. Known for its inclusiveness, the theater provides opportunities in the performing arts for all young people, regardless of income or ability.
