After serving as interim chief information officer since July 2016, Sabra Schneider has officially been named Bellevue’s chief information officer. City Manager Brad Miyake made the appointment this week. Schneider assumes her new duties immediately.

“I am delighted to have Sabra, who’s a premier technology professional, to permanently become Bellevue’s CIO,” said City Manager Brad Miyake. “Her public-sector experience and leadership will be invaluable as the city continues to seek out and utilize emerging technologies to enhance service delivery, improve work efficiencies and maintain current systems.”

As the head of Bellevue’s Information Technology Department, Schneider will lead a team of 60 professionals involved in citywide technology programs ranging from Smart Cities strategies and open data to mobile workforce initiatives and public Wi-Fi, among other areas.

“I’m honored to lead the Information Technology Department, and I look forward to continuing to work with the exceptional professionals in the department and in the city,” Schneider said. “I’m also excited to work with Bellevue’s technology-savvy community to support Bellevue’s smart cities work and to continue advancing technologies that help make government services more accessible and inclusive.”

Schneider joined the City of Bellevue as the chief operations officer for ITD in January 2015 from the City of Seattle, where she had been the director of electronic communications for more than three years, leading five teams in the Information Technology Department. She has also been an instructor at the University of Washington, teaching technology communications courses for the Evans School of Public Affairs.

Schneider’s background includes managing web services and social media for King County and developing, teaching and managing the two-year web program at Seattle Community College, where she was tenured in Computing. Schneider has a Bachelor of Arts degree in multimedia communications from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an executive master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington.

Schneider replaces CIO Toni Cramer who retired in July 2016.

Bellevue’s Information Technology Department delivers diverse services to customers inside and outside of the city. The department provides a full range of IT services to 1,400 employees at 35 locations including help desk support, network, server and cyber security, application development and maintenance, web and graphic design, mapping and GIS, and business administrative support. The department also supports public Wi-Fi in the downtown Bellevue core and at city facilities.
