Early the morning of March 22, a wanted robbery suspect tried to run down Bellevue Police SWAT officers in Seattle during a warrant service. He was fatally shot in the process. No officers were injured during the attempted assault.
Bellevue SWAT Officers Casey Hiam, Jacob Bement and Jacob Childers were the officers involved in the shooting. All three officers started their law enforcement careers with the Bellevue Police Department.
Officer Hiam has been with the Bellevue Police Department for eight years and is currently assigned to patrol. He is a field training officer and has been a SWAT team member since November 2007. Officer Hiam was involved in a shooting in 2009. The subject charged him with a knife and witnesses corroborated the officer's statement. The inquest ruled the use of force was justified and there was no civil liability associated with the incident.
Officer Childers has been with the department for eight years and is assigned to patrol. He works as a field training officer and has been a SWAT member since November 2007.
Officer Bement has been with the department for four years and is currently assigned to patrol and has been a SWAT member since April 2011.
Currently all three officers are on paid administrative leave, which is mandatory after an incident of this nature. The Seattle Police are investigating the shooting (Suspected robber shot during search warrant service).
