On Monday at approximately 3:02 p.m., Bellevue Police responded to the overpass of Interstate 405 at Northeast 10th Street for a report of a suicidal woman hanging over a guardrail. Officers arrived approximately one minute later and found the individual standing on the outside of the guardrail over the northbound lanes of I-405.
Officers immediately began negotiating with the woman. The first officer on scene, Lt. Dave Deffenbaugh, began talking to the individual. As Deffenbaugh attempted to talk to the woman, Lt. Dave Sanabria arrived. Sanabria was able to approach the individual from her back side and pull her from the railing.
The woman was taken to Overlake Hospital for evaluation.
