Using headlight fragments recovered at the scene, Bellevue police have determined the vehicle that struck a cyclist on March 23 was a 2010-2015 Toyota Prius. Police are still looking for the driver, who left the scene without reporting the collision.
The cyclist, a 51-year-old North Bend woman, suffered life-threatening injuries when she was hit by the car shorthly after 6 a.m., while crossing 118th Avenue Southeast. She was in the crosswalk that serves pedestrians and cyclists using the Interstate 90 trail. She is recovering.
Responding to a report from a motorist who saw the woman and the bike on the side of the road that morning, Bellevue police and fire medics found the woman on the shoulder of the street in the 3400 block of 118th Avenue Southeast near the Interstate 90 overpass. Medics transported her to Harborview Medical Center.
The police investigation revealed that the cyclist was traveling eastbound on the I-90 trail, and was crossing 118th Avenue at a marked crosswalk. The cyclist was wearing a helmet. Police believe a vehicle traveling southbound on 118th Avenue struck the cyclist, and the victim was thrown approximately 100 feet.
Bellevue police are asking anyone with information regarding the involved vehicle to contact the police at 425-577-5656. Investigators believe it is possible that the involved driver was unaware that they had struck the cyclist, and are asking that driver to contact them to provide information.
