Shortly after 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, Bellevue Police responded to the Meydenbauer Luxury Apartments (10022 Meydenbauer Way SE) for a report of shots fired. Residents of the building reported hearing what sounded like several gunshots.
Officers arrived a short time later and while attempting to locate the source of the shots saw what appeared to be smoke coming from a unit in the complex. Officers forced their way into the apartment, and located an adult male on the floor. Officers dragged the man out of the apartment and determined that he was deceased. Bellevue firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze.
Bellevue Police detectives have arrived and are conducting a joint investigation with investigators from the Fire Department. At this time, investigators believe that the report of shots fired, the fire and the deceased male are all related a single incident. There does not appear to be any ongoing danger to the community at this time. One police officer was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
Displaced residents are being cared for by the Bellevue Fire Department and the Red Cross until the building has been cleared for occupancy.
