On Wednesday, at approximately 7:41 p.m., Bellevue Police responded to a reported car crash in the 600 block of 148th Avenue Southeast. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle that had been in a crash in the southbound lanes. The driver inside, a 19-year-old Bellevue man, was dead as a result of injuries.
Police investigators are working to determine the events leading up to the crash. Early information gathered from witnesses at the scene revealed that immediately prior to the crash, the victim's vehicle was traveling southbound on 148th Avenue Southeast at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle then struck a concrete light post and a tree, causing the vehicle to split in two. The engine and transmission came to rest approximately 150 feet from the vehicle. The tree that the vehicle struck landed on another vehicle that had stopped to help, the occupants of that vehicle were not injured.
Bellevue Police are working with the King County Medical Examiner's Office to notify the family of the deceased. 148th Avenue was closed between Main and Southeast Eighth streets for the police investigation, and reopened at approximately 4 a.m.
