A police officer on patrol in his vehicle struck a 21-year-old Bellevue man lying or sitting in the street early Sunday morning. The man in the street was transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries to his arm and leg.
At about 2:20 a.m., Sunday, the officer was traveling southbound in the 4000 block of 124th Avenue Southeast. The officer saw the man sitting or lying in the lane of the roadway and attempted to avoid him, but his vehicle did strike the individual.
The officer immediately stopped, rendered aid and requested a medic unit.
Collision investigators with the Bellevue Police were called to the scene to investigate. Investigators will attempt to interview the pedestrian and determine why he was in the roadway. Alcohol is believed to be a factor with the pedestrian.
The officer, 47, has 23 years of law enforcement experience.
