A man suspected in a Bellevue burglary was arrested yesterday after leaving a key piece of evidence at the scene of the crime. On Aug. 25, Bellevue Police responded to a report of a burglary in the 10400 block of Northeast 14th Street.
When police arrived, they contacted a homeowner who said he had caught a man in the process of burglarizing his residence. The man chased the suspect on foot out of his house and down the street, eventually tackling the suspect.
As the suspect was running, several items fell out of his pockets. The suspect was able to escape from the homeowner prior to police arrival, however among the stolen property that he dropped while running was a cell phone belonging to an associate.
Investigators with the Bellevue police's Special Enforcement Team used that phone to track the suspect down, and arrested him Wednesday in Everett. The suspect, 28 year-old Timothy Mader, was arrested and has been charged with first-degree burglary.
The Special Enforcement Team addresses specific types of repeat crimes with an innovative, proactive approach. The team targets prolific, active criminals in an effort to lower the overall rate of reported crime. The team conducts plain-clothes surveillance of targeted areas and surveillance of known active criminals and then coordinates with the King County Prosecutor's Office to ensure that arrested suspects remain in custody. Additionally, SET works frequently with the investigative units of other agencies to help address multijurisdictional offenders.
