Bellevue firefighter-paramedic Paul Hyatt threw out the first pitch at the Seattle Mariners game Thursday after winning the Medic One Foundation's 2013 Spirit of Team Play Award.
Hyatt's fellow paramedics honored him for his extraordinary commitment and exemplary service to the community, including a fundraising drive last year that helped a former Seattle firefighter who was badly burned in 1980.
"I am certain that Paul's compassionate efforts to help this fellow citizen and previous firefighter were nothing short of incredible in the eyes of the beneficiary," said Bellevue Fire Medic One Captain Chuck Heitz. "For all who have the privilege of working with Paul, it is unanimously agreed upon that Paul sets an example of the highest caliber."
Paul's actions are in keeping with the highest standards of the King County Medic One program and the Fire Service.
