Business owners and residents living near the Bel-Red and Wilburton areas are invited to attend an 120th Avenue Northeast, Stage 2 (Northeast Seventh Street to Northeast 12th Street) Open House before construction begins later this month.

The open house will be on Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Bellevue City Hall, conference room 1E-113. It will give the public an opportunity to meet the project manager and the construction contractor and ask questions. City staff will provide comment cards and share the construction schedule, project phasing, and tentative traffic control plan. Project staff will keep the public informed of construction activity and impacts during this two-year project.

This project is the second stage of a three-stage project. The first stage, 120th Avenue Northeast between the 300 Block Northeast and 700 Block Northeast, is in its final weeks of construction just in time for this second phase to begin.

Construction on Stage 2 is scheduled to start later in September. Standard work hours will be Monday through Friday, with daytime hours between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and nighttime hours between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Because Northeast Eighth Street carries a high volume of traffic during the day, the majority of work at that intersection will take place at night. For approximately the next six months work will be concentrated in this section of the project. Over the next year, the work will move north toward Northeast 12th Street. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2016.

Stage 2 will widen the existing roadway between Northeast Seventh and Northeast 12th streets to five lanes, with a center-turn lane where necessary. It will include bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the road, landscaping, street lighting, a new traffic signal at the intersection of 120th Avenue Northeast and Lake Bellevue Drive/Old Bel-Red Road and modification of the two existing traffic signals at Northeast Eighth and Northeast 12th streets.

Additionally, it will stabilize soft soils between Lake Bellevue Drive and Northeast 12th Street, construct a joint utility trench and provide new sewer and water systems throughout the corridor.
