    Published June 8 2015

On Friday, June 6, at approximately 6:22 p.m., Bellevue Police responded to a reported domestic disturbance in the 1200 block of 151st Avenue Southeast. Officers arrived at 6:33 p.m., and a short time later an officer advised dispatch that shots had been fired.

As other officers responded to the scene, the officer that had fired the shot radioed that he was chasing a suspect on foot. The suspect was apprehended and is in custody. There are no suspects outstanding. There is no injury to the officer or suspect. Preliminary facts are that the officer fired one round from his duty weapon, which struck the window of a parked vehicle. What appeared to be a black semiautomatic handgun was found on the street in the vicinity of where the shooting occurred. Closer examination revealed that the weapon was a pellet gun.

The officer who fired the shot is a 36-year-old lieutenant with 12 years of experience with the Bellevue Police Department. The suspect is a 28-year-old white man.

Detectives from the King County Investigative Response Team (KCIRT) are investigating this shooting.

KCIRT was formed to maintain community trust and recognize best practices when investigating officer-involved shootings or other major incidents. Most importantly, KCIRT exists to ensure that thorough, objective and transparent investigations are conducted in a timely and professional manner. The multi-jurisdictional team maximizes the skills of the most experienced investigators and supervisors in our region, while also incorporating the latest technological equipment and techniques.

KCIRT is available to any law enforcement agency in King County that requests the services of the team. The membership and Board of Directors of KCIRT currently consists of the following agencies: Washington State Patrol, King County Sheriff's Office and the police departments of Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah, Bothell, Mercer Island, Snoqualmie and Black Diamond.
