Facing regional lifeguard shortage, city offers hiring bonus
Due to a regional lifeguard shortage, Chism, Clyde and Chesterfield beaches will not have lifeguards as the swimming season begins this summer. Visitors who swim at those beaches do so at their own risk.
The public is encouraged to visit Enatai, Newcastle and Meydenbauer Bay Park beaches, which will have lifeguards daily, noon-7 p.m., June 22 through Labor Day.
The city is offering a $250 hiring bonus in an effort to recruit additional lifeguards and will provide certification training at no cost for people who are hired as Bellevue beach lifeguards. Chism, Clyde and Chesterfield beaches will be guarded as new lifeguards are hired and trained.
For more information about becoming a lifeguard, contact recreation supervisor Patrick Simmons (425-452-4444) or apply online.
