Cultural Conversations, Bellevue’s popular women’s discussion group aimed at increasing cultural understanding and connection, will host its next gathering on Tuesday, Oct. 31., 1-2:30 p.m. at the Crossroads Community Center (16000 NE 10th St.). This month’s theme will focus on how we can be more effective as listeners and storytellers.
Cultural Conversations offers a rare opportunity for storytelling and sharing between women from different backgrounds. The program, now in its seventh year, builds skills for connecting with neighbors, coworkers and local leaders, and bolsters Bellevue’s reputation as a diverse, accepting and thriving community.
Debbie Lacy, director of the Eastside Refugee and Immigrant Coalition, a storyteller coach, and member of Cultural Conversations, will share resources she’s found to be effective in creating safe spaces for inclusive community dialogues across cultures. Participants will have the opportunity to practice skills related to active listening, mindful inquiry and communicating across culture.
The event is free and refreshments are served. Women of all ages, faiths and cultures are welcome to attend. To fully participate in the sharing, making arrangements for child care is recommended.
