Since it was announced on June 10, the city's new "Bellevue Essentials" class has generated a buzz in the community, with early applications from people who reflect the city's age range and ethnic and geographic diversity.
Billed as an on-ramp for emerging leaders, Bellevue Essentials is an eight-week class designed to give people a grasp of the nuts and bolts of city government.
"We meet with residents throughout the year, in a variety of settings, and many express a desire to better understand just how things work in the city," said Mike McCormick Huentelman, who manages the Neighborhood Outreach team offering the new class. "Bellevue Essentials will give those aspiring leaders the knowledge and tools to make a difference."
"I'm really impressed with the caliber and breadth of applicants we've gotten so far," community relations manager Julie Ellenhorn said.
Through Bellevue Essentials, you will gain historical perspective, discover the treasures of Bellevue parks and neighborhoods, work through case studies and mock meetings, and meet today's civic leaders. You'll exit with a unique understanding of what makes Bellevue tick as well as some new skills to help you become more engaged in the city and broader community.
For people who live or work in Bellevue and have an interest in learning more about our community, Bellevue Essentials offers a unique opportunity for 30 dynamic individuals. If this eight-week class (weekly Wednesday evening sessions and one Saturday tour day) sounds like a fit for you, please apply. Applications are due by Aug. 1.
