New book showcases Bellevue

Bomb cyclone storm impacts

A bomb cyclone windstorm lashed Bellevue the night of Tuesday, Nov. 19, bringing down trees throughout the city and leaving hundreds of thousands without power. Most city facilities have power but some are on modified hours or closed due to power outages. Damages from the storm continue to impact Bellevue, prompting the mayor to proclaim a civil emergency in the city. Updates about the city's response will be posted at Bomb Cyclone Storm.

Two truths about Bellevue: the name means "beautiful view" in French, and the city has transformed in the past quarter century.

Yet, the last time a high-quality, large-format book of photos and stories about Bellevue was published was in 1989, nearly 25 years ago. That changed recently with the publication of "Bellevue: Future Unlimited."

The new book contains a wealth of photos and stories that showcase the city's natural beauty, downtown skyline, people, parks, history, home-grown companies and economic vitality.

The book, published by Kirkland-based Wyndham Publications at no cost to the City of Bellevue, also contains a foreword by Mayor Conrad Lee and a section on city government, with information and photos about the city council, boards and commissions, performance measures and economic development.
