Nathan McCommon has been appointed as Bellevue's deputy city manager by City Manager Brad Miyake. McCommon comes to the city from Tonganoxie, Kan., where he served as city manager since 2012. His first day with Bellevue was Monday.
"As the result of an extensive national search, Nathan stood out through his broad managerial experience in public service and practical knowledge of serving the public at the street level," said Miyake. "Nathan will broaden our capacity for advancing the community vision and addressing community, business and organizational needs as Bellevue continues to evolve as an increasingly diverse city with a small-town feel."McCommon joins the role with current Deputy City Manager Mary Kate Berens in this new position within the City Manager's Office.
"I am pleased to join the City of Bellevue during this exciting period of growth and community engagement," McCommon said. "Bellevue is growing in leaps and bounds, both from an economic and community perspective, and I am looking forward to contributing to its success for current and future generations."
For much of his professional career, McCommon has worked in municipal service for local government, beginning in 1990 with the City of Kissimmee, Fla., and later working for Topeka, Kan.; Sedgwick County, Kan.; and Kansas City, Mo. McCommon earned both his bachelor's degree in Spanish literature and a master's degree in Public Administration at the University of Kansas.
