With several road projects ongoing or about to begin, it's time to update information that can help you get around town and minimize delays. Here's a rundown:
- 148th Avenue: Beginning Monday, July 25, construction starts at 148th Avenue where it intersects with Main Street and Southeast Eighth Street to improve the intersections and upgrade traffic signals. Work will continue until mid-December. There will be frequent lane closures, and, because 148th is a major north-south route, expect delays. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
- Utilities work: In mid-August, Utilities will upgrade the sewer system on BelRed Road, between 148th and 152nd avenues. Since the work will take place around the same time as the 148th Avenue intersection improvements, using an alternate route is highly recommended to avoid backups.
- 108th Avenue and NE Fourth Street: A full Saturday closure in August is expected for the 108th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Fourth Street intersection improvement project. Watch for advance notice on posted electronic message boards.
- Northup Way: Two full weekend closures will be required for the Northup Way Corridor project: one is from 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15; the second is from 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22. Northup Way will be closed to through traffic so drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians will need to find an alternate route. Access to businesses will be provided.
- 120th Avenue Northeast: The city is widening 120th Avenue to five lanes, adding bike lanes, landscaping and sidewalks between Northeast 12th and 16th streets. Work begins in August, and the street will be closed between the 1400 and 1600 blocks from mid-August to March 2017.
- Repaving locations: Several daytime lane closures will take place, Monday through Friday, as part of the city's annual overlay program. Locations include Northeast 24th Street, from BelRed Road to 166th Avenue Northeast; and Northeast Eighth Street, from 156th to 164th Avenue Northeast.
To stay up to date on the latest closures, please use the following tools: electronic message boards on roadways provide information on closure dates and times; real-time traffic map and cameras; Traffic Advisories; the Transportation Department Twitter channeland the Capital Project (Interactive) Map. You can also sign up for email alerts for select projects.
Transportation staff realize that construction delays can be frustrating. Your patience and understanding is appreciated very much as workers make many roadway and utility improvements throughout Bellevue this summer.
