As Bellevue continues to grow, the city is exploring changes to its development codes and standards to reduce the impacts of stormwater runoff associated with new development and redevelopment.
The city held a series of workshops to solicit community input this fall. Contractors, architects, developers and other professionals involved in land development will have a chance to weigh in on what is needed to lessen the impacts of stormwater runoff at a Dec. 9 workshop, 10 a.m. to noon, at City Hall (450 110th Ave. NE).
Input can include what additional tools the city should incorporate into its development codes and standards to reduce impervious surfaces and vegetation loss associated with new development and redevelopment. Impervious surfaces and vegetation loss increase stormwater discharges.
Traditional stormwater controls are insufficient to protect our streams and lakes. The city wants to incorporate the use of low impact development principles for site development and redevelopment as a means to reduce stormwater runoff impacts on our natural systems.
Workshop participants can learn about LID and the challenges, opportunities and tensions related to each desired outcome. After a presentation, participants will have the ability to meet with city representatives, ask questions and provide feedback.
